Plan Ahead and Research
Before building front facing fences or pool fencing, it’s important to know your local council’s rules and regulations first before contacting a builder/fencer.
You can find your local council details through:
Queensland: Department of Local Government
Example: Rules and regulation for fencing in the City of Yarra Council.
Avoid the hassle
It is usually a lot faster to build fences within the regulation to avoid council approval time which can take up to 4 weeks. If you are concerned about privacy for the front yard, you can consider using trees & hedges (such as Lilly Pilly or Pittosporum) as an alternative to taller fences to avoid the tedious council and neighbour approval process.
